Fab Fevola has broken a 23-month drought with an all-the-way victory in Friday’s $55,000 Jeep 55 Second Challenge Heat 11 (955m) at Moonee Valley.
The Dean Binaisse-trained eight-year-old was having his 15th start in a heat of the popular 55 Second Challenge series, recording his first victory since he won Heat 16 of the 2012/13 series in March 2013.
Unfortunately for Binaisse, Fab Fevola’s winning time of 55.11 seconds was 0.03 slower than the Brent Stanley-trained Beach Front’s series benchmark of 55.08 in Heat 8.
Jockey Glen Boss said the son of Falvelon thoroughly deserved to get back into the winner’s stall.
“I’ve ridden him a few times lately and I quite like the horse because he’s had wind operation after wind operation and although a lot has gone wrong with him throughout his career he gets out there and tries his very best and that’s all you can ask,” Boss said.
“He clearly won the jump tonight which is the key for him, if he can win the jump and get clear that’s what he really enjoys.”
After jumping straight to the lead, Fab Fevola ($7) raced clear at the top of the straight before holding on to record a 1.5 length win ahead of Override ($7), which shaded Military ($8) in a photo finish for the minor placings.
