For a Song continues good run for 888 Racing

Sep 01, 2015

Promising 3yo FOR A SONG continued the good start to the 15/16 for 888 Racing, breaking her maiden status in fine style over 1200m at Moe on August 22. Ridden by up and coming apprentice Ben Thompson the robust daughter of Gonski practically led from barrier to box, proving too strong for her rivals where she won comfortably by over two lengths.

A bargain buy at the 2014 VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale For a Song has always shown plenty of promise, so much so that trainer Dean Binaisse sent her straight to Flemington on debut. The maiden win came at just her sixth career  start and with another three minor placings to her name she is starting to build a nice record for her owners.

'She is one of the toughest fillies I have had come through the stable'. Said Dean from his Mornington base.

'She handles any type of track condition but she particularly excels in the wet, she has this great ability to sustain her momentum on soft tracks. And this makes her very hard to beat when she gets those conditions'.

'She is still learning her craft, I think next winter we will have a lot of fun with her.

For A Song took her prize money to over $40,000 from just six starts, not bad for a filly that cost under $2,000.

Pic as a yearling.
